Traveling Black & Ms. Shannon Jones have teamed up to curate an amazing international tour centered around an authentic opportunity to Experience South Africa & Tanzania (space very limited). As of now this private trip is only for those who have been pre-approved by Shannon.

After you submit your deposit if you need help booking a flight we can assist you. All of our tours have a focus on authentic Black experiences, Black businesses and Black guides whenever possible. We’ve been able to experience South Africa over 20 times and the itinerary below has been curated to give you the best of the best experiences with an added extension in the islands of Zanzibar, Tanzania and a world class safari:

DAY 1. welcome to south africa

South Africa 2024 Zulu

For some of you this will be your first time on African soil but we guarantee it will not be your last. We’ll meet you at the airport then take you to check into our stylish condos. We’ll have a Meet & Greet, some wine, hand out our swag bags and either have a good night’s rest or choose to go out on the town (it will be Friday night after all).

DAY 2. cape town – driving tour

Cape Town Penguins

After breakfast we will take you along the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive. Next we will visit Boulder beach where you will get to see a real life penguin colony, on the beach, living their best lives. After lunch at a popular Fish n’ Chips place we’ll visit the colorful beach huts at Muizenberg Beach. At night we will go to a Black-owned restaurant known for its gamey meats, excellent wine and vibrant live marimba band. Afterward there will be a few popular bar/lounge options for the party animals in the group.

DAY 3. cape town – wine tasting

experience south africa - stellenbosch wine tasting

After breakfast you’ll get to experience some shopping on the infamous Long st. Then we’re off to the Stellenbosch area just outside of Cape Town for a wine-tasting @ a Black-owned wine farm. Stellenbosch (which is where apartheid started) is now known for it’s amazing wines which rival those in Napa, Santa Barbara, etc. We’ll sip wine, laugh and enjoy delectable bites around the vineyard. After the wine is done we will head by a famous shisa nyama (BBQ/party) for a chance to soak up this unforgettable South African energy.

DAY 4. cape town – free day

South Africa 2024

Today is a FREE day in which you can do anything you like including: visit other museums, visit one of Cape Town’s many beaches, go to Table Mountain, learn about Mandela on Robben Island, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, hike up Lion’s Head Mountain or just relax.

DAY 5. johannesburg (jo’burg)

Jo'burg street art

Today we fly to Jo’burg. After checking into the hotel we’ll walk through a trendy Arts & Crafts market where you can practice your bargaining skills. For dinner we will be going to an upscale Black-owned restaurant with live music. Afterward there will be a few bar/lounge options to check out.

DAY 6. jo’burg – soweto

Soweto street performers - vilakazi st

We will start this day off by going to the Apartheid museum to learn about the atrocities committed during that time. Next we will visit the largest township in South Africa, Soweto. Soweto was home to Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and many others. You’ll enjoy the street performers, the artwork and a world famous restaurant. We will also visit a local school to speak to the children there.

DAY 7. jo’burg – free time

South Africa 2024 silhouette

Today you’ll get some free time. There are markets to check out, lots of restaurants, a ritzy area called Sandton, townships and much more. Also for those not doing the extension and safari in Tanzania we can setup an optional safari experience here just outside of Jo’burg.

DAY 8. goodbye jo’burg

Jo'burg fine dining

If you did not do the extension today will be your last day on tour in Africa. If you did do the extension we will be taking an international flight to Tanzania to let the good times continue. We’ll fly to Kilimanjaro airport and transfer to our accommodations in Arusha. After dinner we will get some rest because tomorrow we get up early to start the best safari in the world, the Serengeti.

DAY 9. tanzania – safari

South Africa 2024 safari giraffe

Today you will get to experience a safari in the Serengeti. This is not a zoo, it is the wild plains where animals roam free. We will load into 1-2 open air safari vehicles with our experienced drivers/guides in search of the Big 5 and all of the other animals, plants and breathtaking scenery.

DAY 10. tanzania – maasai tribe

Experience East Africa - Maasai Tribe

Today the safari continues and we will seek to find the animals we did not see the previous day. After the safari is over we will visit an authentic village that is home to the Maasai tribe. We’ll see their culture, learn their way of life and get to speak with them intimately.

DAY 11. hello zanzibar

Zanzibar style

We’ll make our way to the Archipelago of Zanzibar today. Zanzibar is known for white sandy beaches with crystal blue water. We’ll be staying on Unguja island (AKA Zanzibar island). Historically Zanzibar used to be a major slave trading port as it is a gateway between Africa and Asia. After we check-in we will enjoy dinner locally and a good night’s rest.

DAY 12. zanzibar – the sandbank

Zanzibar - Nakupenda sandbank island

In the morning we’ll do a tour of the surrounding Stone Town area. Next up, we will take a boat to a sandbank that only reveals its stunning white sandy narrow beach at low tide. You’ll have a 360º view of this amazing site. After the sandbank we’ll have a special surprise in store for you all that deals with the youth and their athleticism on the ocean.

DAY 13. zanzibar – the rock

Zanzibar the rock island restaurant

Next up, we get to tour the north side of the island to see even more beautiful beaches where we will eat, jetski and relax. Afterward we’ll make the drive to the east side of the island to go to dinner at a famous restaurant called The Rock. We’ll take a short boat ride to this small restaurant that sits on its own island and enjoy the fine dining.
