I Love Being Black & Traveling.black have teamed up again to curate this global experience centered around an Afro-Brazilian immersion (space very limited). We will be visiting 2 cities in Brazil with rich Black culture, Rio & Salvador.
After you send your deposit we will assist you in booking a flight. All of our tours have a focus on diasporic Black experiences, Black businesses and Black guides whenever possible. So, whether it’s your first time in Brazil or your tenth, you can look forward to the following amazing itinerary during Experience Brazil 2026:

After you land at Rio de Janeiro airport we’ll take you to the hotel to check-in and freshen up. When everyone is settled in we’ll have our meet-n-greet so we can all get to know each other. We will take you to see the most famous staircase in Brazil that is artfully picturesque and has been featured in numerous music videos. Saturday nights are lively in Rio. The Baile Charme party is a favorite for locals and tourists alike. Imagine line-dancing with Brazilians and a backdrop of urban art, street food and great music.

After breakfast you’ll embark on the Little Africa Tour. During this tour you’ll learn about Brazil’s history of slavery that lasted longer than any other country in the western hemisphere, much of it in Rio de Janeiro. Learning the history here is important as it will help to explain all of the Black people around. Next up is the world famous Copacabana beach that stretches for over 2 miles and includes a boardwalk with beachside bars/restaurants. We’ll relax, swim & have lots of caipirinhas. At night we’ll dine at a lively Black-owned restaurant that specializes in tasty African inspired dishes and amazing decor.

For your free day you will have a few options to choose from such as: seeing the giant Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue, climbing Sugarloaf mountain, visiting Ipanema beach, visiting the Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture (MUHCAB), brunching at a posh rooftop restaurant/pool or just relaxing at the hotel. We’ll meet back up for dinner @ a popular Black-owned restaurant and share stories from our different experiences during the day. At night there will be lounges, clubs and other things to choose from.

Today we fly to Salvador da Bahia where Mês da Consciência Negra (Black Consciousness Month) will be in full swing. Salvador is the Black mecca of Brazil. The best food, samba and other parts of Brazilian culture can all be found here. After checking into our hotel, we will go on a Black history tour of Pelourinho which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will learn about Zumbi dos Palmares (famous freedom fighter) and get to meet the leaders of Olodum (world famous drumming/cultural group).

Today is all about food… you’ll start hungry and end happy. The Baianas will teach you how to make acaraje (fried black-eyed peas w/ shrimp & sauce), queijo coalho (a salty cheese topped with oregano, drizzled with molasses heated to a golden brown over charcoal), açai bowl (mashed berries with added fruits and other toppings), caipirinha making class (learn to make Brazil’s most favorite adult drink), moqueca for dinner (flavorful seafood stew with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro, often enriched with coconut milk and palm oil), o cravinho (cachaça rum infused with cloves, cinnamon, honey, and lemon).

Orishas are deities that have roots in West African spiritual practices. Many Brazilians follow Candomblé and pray to these Orishas; in other words they were able to keep some of their African religions that existed in pre-slavery days. We’ll learn about this and more in the Afro-Brazilian museum in Salvador Bahia. The rest of the day we will spend at a Black beach frequented by locals and loved by all.

Next up is our favorite part, the parade during the DAY of Black Consciousness (Nov. 20). This parade is filled with carnaval fun, Black power, and an incredible display of drumming. For many of you this will be the highlight of the trip. Brazilians celebrate Zumbi dos Palmares who was a pioneer in the resistance movement to break the chains of Portuguese slavery and free his people. We will follow the parade, learn the songs/dances and celebrate freedom and Zumbi, arguably the most famous Black Brazilian ever.

For the people that did not choose to extend their trip, this is the sad day that we have to say goodbye. Congratulations on experiencing Brazil during Black Consciousness Month. We will take you to the airport early to ensure you make your flight on time. So, we hope to see you again on future Traveling Black trips!
If you chose to extend your trip we’ll be taking you to a respected Candomblé house to learn more about this religion first hand. Afterward we’ll visit a lake with various statues of Orishas floating on top of it.

Capoeira is a martial art that was disguised as a dance by enslaved Africans. We’ll learn more and get a demonstration of this up close. And then… we’ll hop on a boat tour of the bay (bahia)! There are many islands around Salvador; we’ll unwind with music, drinks and fun on our boat in between visiting some of them. Later at night we’ll be going to a samba party with live music and good people.

After breakfast we’ll take you to the airport in groups for your respective flights back home. We hope you enjoyed Brazil!
