THIS TOUR IS AT CAPACITY!
During November 15 – 20, 2024 (pre-trip extension available) we invite you to Experience Belize, space is very limited. I Love Being Black & Traveling Black have paired up again to curate another amazing tour with crystal-blue water, Afro-Belizean history and amazing fresh local food. Check out the 2023 Belize Tour photos, also some interactive 360º images too. Are you ready?
After you fill out the form below we will assist you in booking the best flight from your home city. All of our tours are safe spaces for Black people and have a focus on diasporic Black experiences, support for Black businesses and local Black guides. Check the itinerary and early bird pricing below.
Welcome to the pre-trip! After we pick you up from the airport and make the drive down to Hopkins we’ll check into the resort and have a mini meet and greet poolside. After dinner you’ll have the option to do a nighttime river cruise. If the conditions are right you will see bioluminescent organisms in the water, a phenomenon locally called “burning-wata” (this tour depends on the weather conditions).
Today we’ll start off with a local 2mi hike to get the blood flowing. The reward at the end of the hike features a beautiful waterfall [360º image], wading pool, small cave behind the waterfall [360º image] and amazing views of lush green Belize. After our hike we’ll have a Belizean style cocktail tasting made with with local flavors and spirits. During the rum tasting you will learn how to dance Punta! This is a fast, sensual riddim that uses a lot of hips. When we hang out at night you can try out your new dance moves.
Belize has been waiting for you… welcome! When you land we’ll meet you right outside of baggage claim with a colorful “TRAVELING BLACK” sign. After that we’ll load everyone up into our air-conditioned private coach and make the drive down to Hopkins Village. On the way down we’ll go over the trip itinerary, local customs and get to know each other since we’ll be hanging out for the next week! After checking into your beach villas we’ll do a meet and greet with the entire group, let the fun begin!
The Pre-extension crew will have some free time to shop, relax or go on an excursion of choice.
After breakfast we’ll take you to explore the ancient Mayan ruins [360º image] of Xunantunich (or Cahal Pech). At well over a thousand years old, this archaeological site holds the history from a time long forgotten. After a short hike we will enter a portal to the Mayan underworld on a cave tubing adventure! Accompanied by experienced and knowledgable guides you will see a beautiful cave system by inner-tube as you float gently along the crystal clear fresh water shallow river.
Most of this day will be free for you to relax and enjoy the sun. You may also opt to do things that are not on our itinerary such as: Chocolate making [360º image], ATV, ziplining [360º image], waterfall excursion, hiking, etc. We will meet back up in the evening for a cultural immersion tour that focuses on Garifuna culture. You will learn how to make Hudut (Sere) which is fish cooked in fresh coconut milk with onions, peppers, okra, and more [360º image]. While your food is being cooked fresh you will get a drumming [360º image] and dance lesson by a popular local group that keeps Garifuna culture alive through music. Later on that night when we party, you can try out your new moves.
Like islands? Me too! So, did you know Belize has around 400 islands? We will spend the first half of the day island hopping [360º image] to a couple of our favorites. You can snorkel, swim or just relax on the boat we’ll have all of the appropriate gear for you to do it all. We’ll eat lunch and visit the rum bar [360º image] during this excursion, then head back to mainland. The rest of your day will be at your leisure to shop, lounge at the beach villa or participate in some of the lively Caribbean day parties. At night we’ll dance and celebrate life.
November 19th is Garifuna Settlement Day, [360º image] a national holiday throughout Belize. On this day in 1802 the Garifuna arrived in British Honduras after being exiled on the island of Roatán. Garifuna locals do a reenactment of the boats arriving to shore with plants and other items they brought all while a drumming and dancing demonstration is happening. This is the most important day of the year to celebrate Garifuna culture and history so there will be events all day and well into the night hours.
In conclusion, this is the sad day that we have to say goodbye. Congratulations on taking the time to Experience Belize 2024. We will take you to the airport early to ensure you make your flight on time. Above all, we hope to see you again on future Traveling Black trips!
