During September 29 – October 9, 2017 we invite you to Experience South Africa (space limited). I Love Being Black & Traveling.black have teamed up to design an expertly curated trip that will change the way you travel the world. We will take you through 3 amazing South African cities in 10 days starting off with the Essence Festival in Durban; this is where class and authenticity intersect. After you you submit your deposit we will assist you in booking a suitable flight. All of our tours have a focus on diasporic Black experiences, Black businesses and Black guides. As you visit Durban, Cape Town, & Johannesburg you can look forward to the following itinerary on the trip of a lifetime as you Experience South Africa: First day in an exciting new part of the world. After you land in Durban we will be there to transport you to your beautiful hotel to freshen up and meet the rest of the group. The Essence Fest will be in full swing with workshops during the day, mixers in the evening and parties at night. Just in case you aren’t jetlagged, there are several options for nightlife including a premium nightclub playing South Africa’s best house, hip hop and kwaito music and it even features 2 swimming pools inside. There are also 3 jazz clubs available as well. Durban has lots of options if you really want to experience South Africa. As the Essence Fest continues you will have a variety of things to see including: a fashion showcase of South Africa’s hottest styles, vendors selling locally made goods and intriguing workshops. At night will be Essence’s main attraction, the concert. This concert will feature Africa’s best talent for hours of amazing entertainment, and our squad will be right there in the mix. For the day’s excursion we will start by going to a museum to learn about the cultural history of the Zulu tribe. The museum is located in a victorian style 3-story mansion and houses over 4,000 pieces of art. Although there are many vendors around, we will take you to another location downtown where the locals go for the best prices to buy jewelry, clothing and other gifts. For the night’s entertainment we will head to the Umlazi township to partake in a shisa nyama (BBQ/party) that is a staple amongst South African socialites. You get to choose your meat from the butcher, they BBQ it and bring it to your table, all while the DJ spins only the best music. Drinks, shisha (hookah), dancing and good vibes all around. If you are looking for an authentic local experience South Africa will surely provide it here. After landing in Cape Town we will check into our premium loft-style apartments. You are free to choose what you do today whether it’s shopping, beach, Robben island (where Mandela was held) or simply lay around in your loft. For dinner we will head to one of the top rated restaurants in Cape Town which features specialty meats, home brewed African beer and exquisite African cuisine. This Black-owned restaurant also has an amazing marimba band which will play music live while you dine. After dinner we will head to the infamous Long st. which is a bustling 1-mile strip that seems to never sleep. To experience South Africa (and Cape Town in particular) you have to see Long st. We will start off in the morning by exploring the brightly colored houses in Bo-kaap, a Cape Malay settlement. Then we’ll head to Table Mountain where you can either hike up or take the cable car to the top to see the amazing views. Next up is the guided District 6 museum tour which will educate you about the atrocities that happened to these people during apartheid. Next, have you ever seen penguins bodysurfing on a beach? You will see that and more at Boulder beach. Then we head to Cape point, home of several ostrich farms and you will also get to see where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean (hint: they don’t mix!). On the way back home we will enjoy Chapman’s Peak drive and the ensuing sunset to the west. At night you have many options, including a cigar bar/lounge that is sure to be a fun place to be. The Stellenbosch area just outside of Cape Town is known for it’s amazing wines. Their pinotage will rival wines from your favorite wineries in Napa, Santa Barbara, etc. We will sip, relax and enjoy delectable bites such as South African biltong. After the wine is done we will head to one of the townships in Capetown to share teach and learn with people there. Then, we’ll head to one of Cape Town’s most beautiful beach areas to enjoy the sunset, live entertainment and dinner on the beachfront. You will be able to experience South Africa and all her beauty here. After we arrive into Johannesburg we will check into our apartment style hotel in the heart of downtown. Next up is the amazing Apartheid Museum. We will spend a few hours here then head to Soweto, South Africa’s largest township. Vilakazi st. in Soweto is simply amazing. You have great local vendors, talented pantsula dancers, entrepreneurial innovation at the Box Shop, tasty local delicacies and of course the amazing street art. This is the day many of you have been waiting for. Going on a real African safari is a life goal for many people, and we’re going to help you do it right. Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s biggest game reserves, spanning over 7,500 sq. mi. We will start out by telling you the history of the Tsonga tribe who used to inhabit this land. Then you will learn about the big five animals: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, & rhinoceros. We will make every attempt to get you to see all of them during our game drive. The Neighborgoods Market is something you have to do. Picture an area with dozens of food stalls set up serving different international tapas style food & drinks. There is also a vendor craft area with great items to purchase as gifts. Lastly you will enjoy the live music and overall good vibes of the venue that overlooks the streets in the Braamfontein area. The rest of the day is free (until dinner). There are many things to do in Jozi such as: museums, walk Mandela bridge, visit the botanical gardens, ride on a tuk tuk, go on a bike tour, take a hike, etc. We will meet up for dinner at a Black-owned restaurant called the Blackanese, an African sushi experience (don’t misss this). First we will visit the trendy area of Jozi called Maboneng to explore the Arts On Main event. Next we will check out an upscale shisa nyama that takes place high on a rooftop, ran by brotha Vusi. They have great seafood platters, a full bar, shisha, music and 360º panoramic views of the city. Vusi will give us a personal welcome and tell us about the business ventures he has going on in South Africa and in the US.
